Two Indonesian football fans died in a stampede in Jakarta on Monday at the Southeast Asian Games final against Malaysia, according to a victim's brother and a report citing a paramedic.
"When we found the victims, they were already dead," paramedic Abdul Majid told the Detik.com news portal outside the stadium.
Local media reported that several other spectators had been taken to hospital, including a nine-year-old boy who had fallen into a coma.
The two fans wearing Indonesian red-and-white team T-shirts were reportedly taken to hospital at 8:30 pm, around 90 minutes after the stampede broke out, as thousands streamed into the game.
"As we were entering the stadium, the crowd of people pushed each other to make their way forward," Helmi, the brother of one of the victims, told AFP.
"My brother was pushed away from me and we were separated. I then heard that some people had fallen and that people had died. I rushed to check and found my brother dead."
The identity of the second victim was unknown.
Deadly stampedes at major sporting, music and religious events are common in Indonesia.
Violence at football games is also common, with disgruntled fans often throwing dangerous items onto the field after matches.
Earlier Monday, two men were arrested for burning down a ticket booth at the stadium upon learning the match had sold out, media reported.

Pacmom Mad About Mosley

Posted by Unknown | 5/11/2011 | , | 0 comments »
While WBO welterweight champ Manny Pacquiao was defending his title against Shane Mosley in their championship match at the MGM Grand Garden Arena last Saturday, his mother, Dionisia Pacquiao, better known as Mommy Dionesia, opted to pray for her son's victory instead of watching the fight.

Mommy Dionisia only knew of Manny's victory after she went out of her prayer room.

When her relatives replayed the match, Mommy Dionisia reportedly got angry on Mosley for stepping on her son's foot and for pushing him in the 10th round.

The third man on the ring, veteran referee Kenny Bayless, called it a knockdown but admitted his mistake and apologized after the bout.

During a televised interview, the PacMom said she got mad on Mosley for his alleged dirty tactics. “Dahil sa ginawa niya, kung nando'n ako eh baka suntukin ko siya,” Mommy Dionisia said, referring to Mosley.

The fighting congressman's mother is popular for her being frank, truthful and no-holds-barred answers during interviews.

She will be celebrating her 62nd birthday on Sunday, May 15, 2011, expecting no less than a million-peso Birkin designer bag from Hermes as a gift coming from her son.

Denver Cuello Wins Again

Posted by Unknown | 3/29/2011 | | 0 comments »

WBC International minimumweight titlist Filipino boxer Denver "The Excitement" Cuello stunned Thai contender Samat Chaiyong with a 9th-round technical knockout and thus winning the fight held at the Ynares Gym in Angono, Rizal on March 26.

Samat used the entire ring to circle out of harm’s way but Cuello caught up with him in the fourth, landing a series of powerful lefts to the Thai’s head.

The Thai tried everything to stop Cuello’s attack in the fifth to eighth rounds but got trapped in a corner in the ninth and absorbed a hail of punches, forcing referee Bruce McTavish to stop the fight.

Denver Cuello, 24, suffered a loss by disqualification in his fight against Juan Hernandez last year.

Undefeated superbantamweight Ernie Sanchez beat Jog Alim via an eighth round TKO in the main supporting bout.

Alim hit the deck in the opening round but slowly worked his way back into the fight, only to fall anew in the eighth after a series of shots by Sanchez.

Pacquiao is Quitting Twitter

Posted by Unknown | 3/24/2011 | , | 0 comments »
Pacquiao deleted his Twitter account in the wake of criticism of his online behavior & absence from Congress.

One of Pacquiao's last tweets was his "no" vote.  He earlier tweeted that he will soon delete his Twitter account, but this tweet was deleted shortly after.

At around 4:20pm on March 22, Pacquiao deleted his Twitter account @congMP, less than 24 hours after he was called out for reacting harshly to online criticism.
On the evening of March 21, Pacquiao was in Baguio training for his May bout against Shane Moseley.  Despite his absence from Congressional proceedings, he managed to air his opposition to the impeachment of Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez via his Twitter account.

"I vote NO! & I can give my explanation thanks," he said emphatically just a few minutes before midnight.

So unfortunate of me, I wasn't able to follow him before he got his account deleted.
